Shoebox Veggie Patch

Veggies are a hot topic around our house. We have a vegetable garden that the kids help plant, farmers markets are a regular pit stop for our fam and we recently joined a CSA so we have a giant box of veggies delivered to our doorstep weekly. A pretend veggie patch that the kids can pick carrots from whenever the whim hits them seemed the perfect I Love to Create project.

SUPPLIES

Orange Paint (I mixed yellow and red Crafty Chica Paint)

Paint Brush

Wooden Blanks shaped like carrots

Green Ribbon

Crop-o-Dile (or drill)

Green Paper

Aleene's Tacky Double Stick Sheets

Brown Paper

Scissors

Shoe Box

If you ever go down the wood craft aisle at the craft store you will notice that almost any shape you can imagine is available in raw wood form. I happen to have some that looked carrots. Paint your forms with orange craft paint. I applied a couple of coats. Allow to dry completely.

While your paint is drying you can prepare your shoe box. The "dirt" inside your box is going to be brown paper. I had to cut my paper to fit inside the box.

Once your paper is the right size fold in half without creasing. You will do this to all of your paper until you have enough to fill your shoebox. I used Aleene's Tacky Double Stick Sheets to adhere the sheets together at the bottom. I also stuck the last two sheets to the inside of the shoe box. Don't put the glue sheets up too high on the paper as you want the kids to be able to stick their faux veggies between the sheets.

Once my mounds of paper dirt were in place I needed to add grass. I again used my Tacky Double Stick Sheets to attach two rows of green paper that I had cut in a jagged pattern to resemble grass. You could also use Crafty Chica paint and just paint the box green. Do all 4 sides.

By now your carrots should be dry. Using a Crop-o-Dile or a small drill put a hole in the center of the wide end.

Using green ribbon tie pieces through your holes so that they look like the tops of carrots.

All that is left to do is fill your veggie patch with carrots. You could also make beets, parsnips, onions - any root veggie really.

Tallulah and Baxter spent the afternoon pulling and replacing carrots in their new veggie patch. We read "Growing Vegetable Soup" and I talked to them about how some plants grow on bushes and other under the ground like their new carrots.

Spot The Difference?

Well, some of you may notice the difference here, some may not, but here is me with out my beloved hair extensions.

For some of you, this may not be a big deal, and you may not get why I've done a entire post dedicated to me without my clip in hair extensions in, but for me, it is quite a big deal! Although I do wear my hair extensions a lot, I felt it was fair to share with you what my natural hair is actually like. I get a lot of comments on my hair, and my followers are so nice about it, and although I put a lot of effort into styling my hair with extensions to make it look natural, I sometimes feel a twinge of guilt at the nice comments thinking followers may not know they're extensions.

I may sound a bit dramatic, and if I do then I apologise! But to be honest, I just am not keen on my hair at its natural length or thickness. And its grown into quite a habit to wear my extensions, otherwise I just don't feel attractive.

So, baring a little bit of myself to you guys today. Seems so petty when I put it down in words, but I spose everyone's got their insecurities?

P.S. My dress is from H&M :)

MAYA IN THE MOMENT TEEN CRAFT: Gumball Toy Headband

It's summer time, neon colors are in - combined with the fact that I stopped straightening my curly hair,  I needed something to harness my curls! Hello, headbands! Instead of going with the boring store bought version, I decided to make my own out of my gumball toy collection and yarn scraps!

SUPPLIES:

First I found a plain headband, sprayed Aleene's Tacky Spray and wrapped it with yarn.

Next I got scraps of yarn, and wood pieces you can purchase at the craft store. Put a generous drop of glue on the wood piece, and wrap with yarn. I recommend gluing on the gumball toys to your wood piece BEFORE gluing on to headband, and let it dry. This way you can rearrange!
Lastly, glue on the wood pieces to your headband. It's fun and super colorful. You can use a clothes pin to hold it in place. And that's a wrap! :)

VIDEO TUTORIAL: How to dye fabric with yarn!

Check out the video tutorial below!

 LINK TO VIDEO

Regular old tie-dyeing can get boring. not all of us are into the hippy style, you know/ I like to experiment and come up with non-traditional ways to use fabric dye. This is a good one - it's great for kids or people who just like to play and experiment!

What you're doing is soaking cotton yarn, holding it tight between your fingers and then pressing onto damp fabric. It gives a bit more control that just using the squeeze bottle.

You'll need to pick up a Tulip Tie Dye Kit and either cotton swatches or shirts, etc. Check out the video to see the full technique!

Here are some clutches I made using my fabric scraps from this experiment. I have the tutorial posted here.

Grace

Well, how great has this sunshine been? For any of my readers outside of the UK, the sun doesn't often pay us a visit, so when Mr Sunshine does come to say hello, we get all excitable!

So, to embrace this unexpected heatwave, I whipped on my lace shirt dress from Primark, which I mentioned in my
haul video. It was only £15, and an amazing dupe for this Lipsy dress, at a quarter of the price. Its beautiful quality, coming with slip underneath to hide away the undies! I love the lace top paired with the chiffon bottom, which gives it such a floaty, princess look!

I teamed it with this cute floral crown from the
New Look sale, which was only £3! Such a bargain! I love the romantic feel it creates, its just a beautiful piece for the Spring/Summer months. I also wore my croshay lace bow sandals from Primark. I can't remember how much I paid for them, I think it was in the region of £4-6, and it was only about a month ago so I'm sure they'll still be available.

To finish it off I stuck on my new animal print raybans from
New Look, which were an amazing £2.99! I can't believe the bargains I've found in New Look recently! Also, my ring is from the jewellery shop Muse, for only £2 or £3 if I remember correctly!

What do you make of my summery look? What outfits were you excited to pull out of your wardrobe when the sun came out?

Caudalie S.O.S Thirst Quenching Serum Review!

I must admit when I first laid eyes on this product in my April Glossy Box I was excited to see the name Caudalie as I've been dying to try the Beauty Elixir but when I saw that this was a hydrating serum I thought "this product is not for me" as I have oily skin, I was very wrong! This product has been a life saver for me over the last few weeks and I love it!

To start off I want to tell you a little bit about the company. Caudalie was started in 1995 by Mathilde Thomas and her husband in the Bordeaux region of France, they discovered with the help of Dr Vercauteren that polyphenals in left over grape seeds had extraordinary anti-oxidant power. Together they created Vinotherapie, the use of natural spring water combined with vine extracts. The products contain no parabens, phthalates, phenoxythanol, sodium lauryl sulphate, colorants, mineral oils or animal derived ingredients and they're also cruelty free.

The S.O.S Thirst Quenching Serum "continuously captures and diffuses water deep within the skin to restore it's moisture balance and leave it feeling soft and fresh".

The reason this product has been so amazing for me in the past few weeks is because a couple of months ago my skin went crazy and started breaking out on my chin, either side of my chin and along my jaw, to try and combat this I decided to use Dermalogica Special Clearing Booster which completely dried my skin out making applying makeup almost impossible so now I had loads of spots that I couldn't cover up with makeup because my skin was so dry and flaky that applying makeup just made it look ten times worse, nightmare!

That's when I started using the Caudalie S.O.S Thirst Quenching Serum and it worked a treat on my dry, flaky skin, I just applied it after cleansing my skin and before my moisturiser and the dry skin was gone!

A little bit goes a long way with this product, I received a 10ml sample and I've been using it everyday for a few weeks now and I've still got some left. I've also been using it around my nose as I've had a really bad cold and my nose was really dry and sore. I probably wouldn't need to use this product all the time as normally I don't have a problem with dry skin but it's been a lifesaver throughout my breakouts, which have actually calmed down a lot now and another product I've been using has helped a lot with that which I'll be doing a review on soon.

If you have dry or dehydrated skin then I thoroughly recommend this product, at £29 for 30ml it is on the expensive side but if you buy it from Naturismo it's currently 10% off and free delivery on Caudalie products, click here to check out the Naturismo website. Also when you make a purchase on the Naturismo website you get to choose up to 5 samples for free when you checkout.

Has anyone else tried this product? What did you think? Let me know! :)
